Understanding the Problem

Nearly 70% of job seekers say their current job search is more difficult than their last one, according to a recent survey of more than 1,500 candidates

Job searching has become increasingly difficult over the past five years, particularly in the oversaturated tech industry. It takes 4-8 months on average to find a job, with recent graduates facing up to 12 months.

Jobseekers often apply to dozens of roles per month, totaling hundreds over their search. Keeping track of applications becomes challenging, leading to potential missteps, like forgetting details during unexpected screening calls.

Additionally constantly facing rejections leave jobseekers feeling discouraged and unsure of what they need to improve to secure a role.

Challenges

Correlation Between Job Search Intensity and Employment Success

There is a positive correlation between job search intensity (measured by the number of job applications sent out and networking activities) and employment success. Specifically, job seekers who engage in higher intensity job search activities are 35% more likely to secure employment compared to those with lower search intensity. This statistic underscores the importance of proactive and sustained job search efforts in achieving employment outcomes.

Emotional and Psychological Challenges

Job seekers frequently experience significant stress, anxiety, and discouragement throughout the job search process. This emotional toll can impact their motivation and persistence, often leading to decreased job application activity over time.

Too Many Required Qualifications or Degrees

Nearly 40% of job seekers said they find it frustrating when a job posting lists a number of required qualifications or degrees that may not impact the ability of a candidate to do the job. While it can be disheartening to see a posting that you think is a fit, but you don’t have every qualification the employer is looking for, it may still be worth it to apply.

Young professionals can experience a feedback vacuum

Wondering how to improve, if they need to improve, and how they can develop the skills necessary to improve
